Almost Wordless Saturday

In October 1999 we brought Mother to explore Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs.  She finally got to see what we had been raving about for years.  One of the sights were the new horse statues at the Hubbard Museum.  We had a lot of fun there.

Iris and Others

Wikipedia reports that iris is a genus of 260  species of flowering plants with showy flowers.  Hondo Iris Farm only had 2 with beautiful blooms and a couple with very faded, droopy blooms.  The iris season ended a week or more ago, much to our unknowing dismay.  Even the roses were past blooming.  We did see some interesting plants and blooms, though.

Not sure what the purplish leaved tree was but has some interesting mossy effects.

Poppies are scattered around the trimmed iris plants and even the poision oak makes a display.

Lillies were the blooms of the day and made quite a show of it.

Blooms in Ruidoso

Don't know what these blooms are but they make a beautiful display.  There is a single bloom behind our trailer that had a hummingbird sipping on it this morning.  Edited to add:  Friend Jamye says they are Red Hot Pokers.  Sure look like it.  Love it when a flower is named for what it looks like.  Gives me a little break on remembering their names!

We had a wonderful afternoon at the races yesterday.  Sat in the shade with a gentle breeze cooling us and watched the beautiful horses.  I knit in between races and enjoyed being outdoors.
